Now that 2010 is approaching does the U.S. army have any plans for replacing the M4/M16 possibly for the Barrett REC7 (formally known as the M468) or another possible candidate such as the HK416 or the FN SCAR. also there's a rumor going around Colt is losing the contract to be the main producer of the armys assault rifles in 2010 to another company, possibly Barrett?

So we all know the M16 is junk, and the American contract with Colt is coming to an end. What does everyone think the new AR for the US military will/should be. I'm putting my money on the Belgan FN SCAR.

From what I've seen the M416 is a much better gun and from what I've heard the M4's have serious troubles with jams and stuff like that but I've seen the M416 placed into a large box of sand, completely emerged, then pulled out and shot perfectly.

I may be wrong but it always seem like soldiers in the war today are carrying M4 carbines. Even in movies they have the M4. Is it a cheaper gun cause the M16 is made by Colt also so i can't really see that happening. Isn't the M16A4 a more accurate gun and doesn't have a longer range then the M4. I can only see the M4 for close combat fighting because of the smaller barrel. But is there really a lot of close combat fighting in the Iraq and Afghanistan war

I have been saving up to get the New Colt Match Target M4
Model-MT6400C with an 8 shot, gas operated, semi-automatic. I wanted it because it is a spiting image of the very 1st Colt 1963 M16 (the one that didn't jam before McNamara changed the spent chamber from a stainless steel to a chrome covered steel piece)
I went to give my last lay-away payment and he gave me back a check for $900.00 then he told me the Government has stopped letting Arms Dealers and Gun Shops sell Tactical Rifles.
It so stupid because I have an 8 shot Semi Automatic hunting rifle.
My son and I, we go to shooting ranges for fun and pay to shoot ww1 and ww2 and 21st century Machine guns. It's really a blast. I think the women get off on it more then the men! Really!
But I can say one thing at least my home is secured ready and able to handle a nut case with an illegal full-automatic AK47. Those kind of people are really out there. You wait and see what happens if our Banks Tank out and all those free loaders that get there monthly checks stop getting there checks and no other way to get there dope.

its silly the xm8 is a perfict gun... the m4 jams to much... colt was up stage by H&K buy 3 of there guns... the m416,g36, m8... plus there also cheaper than the m16 and m4. if there not going to get H&K then they should get fn... fn f2000,fnS.C.A.R.E. ... the standerd us guns suck... but not the m468 H&K and colt made that

my question is i bought a new colt m4a3 upper 14.5 inch for her and am going to put knight rails on it and am wanting to make it a free float barrel like my ar's is this a good idea or bad idea seeing that it is full auto i do all my own work on my firearms but this is my first class 3 she runs great with the original upper but i want to give her an up dated look as well as changing the upper i am put on a new caa 6 position stock magpul grip and i bought a new eotech sight if i float the barrel then i will decide on which gas block and flip up irons

I remember from basic training (1980) that Colt was the main manufacturer of the M16, but also some of the rifles were made by "Mattel" . thats the argument I have people saying Mattel never made M16 rifles , who is right ?

Why is it that in the subways or Grand Central station, counterterrorists are deployed carrying M4 or M16 carbine rifles?

#1 those rifles are large and frightening to regular Americans but to actual terrorists who are used to seeing AK-47's, they are a joke because the terrorist has been desensitized to the violet power of an assault rifle.

#2 A terrorist isn't going to start a shootout in Grand Central station or on the subway. A Terrorist is more likely to suicide bomb themselves and everyone near them, including the CT. What's the point of bringing a rifle to a bomb fight?

#3 Colt M4/M16 rifles are designed for combat at up to 300Meters. Why are we using carbines when the British use MP5 submachineguns which are more suited for a close quarters combat situation?

#4 i think a .223 (5.56mm) round in the event of a firefight is more likely to penetrate a perp and kill an innocent.

#5 i think our "troops" carry these weapons just to look cool. There is no practicality
